Pan Ioanid is the most famous personality from a family of painters who originated in Varna. Iconographers and church painters reach, in the third generation, easel painters, exhibitors of the Artistic Youth and of the official Bucharest Salons. Pan (Pandele), known especially for the production of folk scenes, is an unequal artist, capable of Gregorian pastries, but also of original compositions in neo-impressionist style. This is also the case of this paper, a splendid seascape depicting a beach on the shores of the Black Sea. The monumental landscape, built classically, is painted with verve, the brush sprinting recording the massiveness of the cliff, the lazy foamy waves, the immensity of the sky and the cheerful gathering of holidaymakers scattered among makeshift tents on the beach sand. Everything happens in the strong and equal light of the middle of the day, the light that eats from the contours, the light that highlights the special and so little known mastery of the painter.

The Ioanid dynasty was a family of painters who spoke for almost 150 years and were the most popular exponent of Romanian painting, the owner of a famous painting workshop on Calea Mosilor in Bucharest.
