Ștefan Dimitrescu (1886- 1933, Iași, Romania) - realistic Romanian painter and illustrator. He studied at the School of Fine Arts in Iasi and then in Paris. In 1918 he was one of the founders of the Romanian Art Association. Together with Nicolae Tonitza, Francisc Șirato and Oscar Han, he founded, in 1926, the Group of Four. From 1927 he was a teacher at the School of Fine Arts in Iași. His work consists mainly of compositions, portraits and landscapes. It depicts with sincere emotion, sometimes with a restrained drama, authentic scenes and types, especially from the world of villages and workers. Ștefan Dimitrescu about himself: “I am moved by color and I am passionate about form; when I see one it seems to me that the other escapes me. I'm constantly looking to catch them and enlarge them. "
"Ș Ștefan Dimitrescu's voluptuousness for the in-depth study of nature, the variety and the multitude of drawings, which were splendid musical-chromatic preludes and which brought the general public and the fame of an unparalleled designer to us" (Nicolae Tonitza)
