Istoria Lichiorului incepe acum peste 7 secole. Numele provine din latinescul “Liquifacere”, care insemna „a dizolva”. Se dizolvau fructe, coji de fructe, frunze, flori, seminte scoarta, radacini, samburi adica aproape orice parte a unei plante care infuzata intr-un alcol, capata un gust si un parfum aparte. Primul lichior era extrem de amar. Dupa descoperirea Americii, cand pretul condimentelor si zaharului a scazut, calugarii au inceput sa puna in lichior zahar, miere, cafea, cacao, scortisoara, vanilie. Primele lichioruri: Chartreuse, Benedictine, Chambord. Lichiorurile cu o tarie de la 25% vol. alcool la 40 % vol. alcool sunt considerate bauturi-digestive, iar cele cuprinse intre 17 – 25 % vol. alcool sunt denumite bauturi-desert.
